13. Body

13.1. Introduction

GENERAL INFORMATION

The body of Mercedes is self-bearing. Basis details, side parts, a roof and back wings of the car are welded with each other. The windshield and back glasses are pasted. Therefore big malfunctions can be eliminated only in a specialized workshop.

The engine cowl, trunk lid, doors and forward wings of the car are attached by bolts, and they can be replaced easily. At installation therefore surely it is necessary to maintain the appropriate sizes of air gaps, otherwise, for example, the door can knock or take place the increased noise of wind at the movement of the car. The air gap has to pass anyway in parallel, i.e. the distance between body details on all length of an air gap has to be identical. Tolerance of 0,5 mm.

Indications for safety measures during the works on a body

When carrying out welding or other works with emergence of sparks near the rechargeable battery, the battery has to be surely removed.

On details of the filled conditioner welding works, and also the firm or soft soldering are not allowed. It belongs also to welding and to a plumbing on the car if there is a danger that details of the conditioner will heat up.


Prevention

The contour of circulation of liquid in the conditioner should not open.


Remove a sheeting of the bottom of the car and sealants in places of repair the rotating wire brush or warm obduvy hot air to max of 180 °C and delete with the pallet.

At repair of a varnish covering it is possible to heat the car by means of the open drying furnace at most to 80 °C. Otherwise in the car the electronic operating devices can be damaged.
