14.1.7.2. Check of the rechargeable battery

GENERAL INFORMATION

There are two options of check of the rechargeable battery. Depending on them use of various test devices will be required.

Check of density of electrolyte

In combination with voltage measurement the actual density of electrolyte allows to draw a conclusion on accumulator razryazhennost degree.

To check it is applied accumulator денсиметр with a pipette. The more the specific weight (electrolyte density) of the drained-in electrolyte, the more deeply plunges a float (areometer). On a scale it is possible to consider electrolyte density in the form of the specific weight (g/ml) or degrees of Bome (+ ° Ve).

The following values (have to be reached at a temperature of electrolyte about +20 °C).

+ ° Ve
g/ml
It is discharged

1,15
It is half discharged
24
1,22

1,26

Consistently check each separate element, all elements of a cell have to have the identical density of electrolyte (the maximum difference 0, 04 g/ml). Otherwise the faulty rechargeable battery can become isolated.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Connect the voltmeter to battery poles.
2. Instruction: if tension of the rechargeable battery (without connection of consumers) is less than 12 V, then it is discharged and it needs to be recharged.
3. Start the engine and consider tension.
4. In the course of start of the engine the charged rechargeable battery tension has to have not lower than 8 V (at a temperature of electrolyte about +20 °C).
5. If tension at once falls down and in cells various density of electrolyte was recorded, then the faulty accumulator can become isolated.

The general tension can be measured by means of the device for check of a condition of rechargeable batteries. Pay attention to recommendations of the manufacturer about care of the rechargeable battery.

Prevention

If during this measurement (lasting 10 sec.) the general tension falls lower than 10 V, then the rechargeable battery or is discharged or faulty.
