Cross section of a wire for connection of a starter to the auxiliary rechargeable battery has to make not less than 16 sq. mm (diameter about 5 mm) for internal combustion engines with compulsory spark ignition of working mix up to the volume of cylinders of 2,5 l. At engines with a volume of cylinders over 2,5 l and at diesels the cross section of this wire has to make at least 25 sq. mm. At the same time the car with the discharged rechargeable battery is defining, naturally. As a rule, the cross section of a wire is specified on its packing. It is recommended to get this wire with the isolated tightening grips and with a cross section of 25 quarter of mm as it is suitable also for engines with rather lower working volume of cylinders.
Both rechargeable batteries have to have voltage of 12 Volts.
The discharged rechargeable battery can freeze already at a temperature of -10 °C. Before connection of a wire for connection of a starter to auxiliary (out of the car) the rechargeable battery surely defreeze the frozen rechargeable battery.
The discharged rechargeable battery has to be correctly connected to electric onboard network.
Check liquid level in the discharged battery. If necessary add the distilled water.
Install cars at such distance among themselves that between them there was no metal contact. Otherwise at connection of a positive pole current can already proceed.
At each of two cars tighten the hand lever of the parking brake system. Install the step transmission in neutral situation, and in case of the automatic transmission – in position of the parking "Р".
Disconnect everything consumers of current.
Surely the engine of the auxiliary car has to work during process of launch of the main car with rotation frequency in the idling mode. Thanks to it the possibility of damage of the generator because of the peaks of tension arising at start-up is excluded.
During start-up avoid emergence of an open flame and the burning cigarettes near the rechargeable battery because from it combustible gases can be emitted.
Pay attention to that wires for connection of a starter to the auxiliary battery could not be damaged by the rotating details, such as the engine cooling system fan.
Connect wires for connection of a starter to the auxiliary rechargeable battery as follows:
1. Connect a red wire to the plug of a positive pole of the discharged rechargeable battery (A).
2. Attach other end of a red wire to the plug of a positive pole of the rechargeable battery (B) giving current.
3. Attach a black wire to the plug of a negative pole of the rechargeable battery giving current.
4. Connect other end of a black wire to a good point of the case (X) of the reception car. Best of all for this purpose the metal detail screwed on the block of cylinders of the engine approaches. Under adverse circumstances: at connection of a wire to a negative pole of the discharged battery the last can explode because of sparking and release of detonating gas.
Start and leave to work the engine of the reception car (the rechargeable battery is discharged). At start continuously press a starter not longer than 10 seconds as because of high consumption of current tightening grips of poles and a wire heat up. Therefore sometimes maintain "a cooling pause" not less than 1/2 minutes.
Do not bend over rechargeable batteries – there is a danger of traumatizing!
After launch of the engine disconnect clips from plugs in the return sequence: at first disconnect from the plug a black wire (–) on the reception car, and then – on the car giving current, at first disconnect from the plug a red wire on the car giving current, and then – on the reception car.
